South End Family Refresh

This South End couple was an absolute delight to work with. We love that our final designs were the result of a close collaboration inspired by their colorful taste!

The story behind this project is one of a growing family in a tight urban home. They needed to refresh their space to better suit their current family needs. With three small children this couple was longing for more storage, function, and moving beyond some of their “workhorse” furniture pieces to help their home feel more sophisticated while still serving their active family.

One of our favorite aspects of this home refresh was working with this couples love of graffiti art and their existing artwork collection. Part of our design work was simply finding the best way to highlight some of their large scale pieces and integrate them into our vision for a more functional home.

Gallery photos below include: All Photos from our final install + 4 images of the original space (don’t mind the holiday decor!)

Key Design Features Include:

  • Adding a built-in banquette dining bench nook in the kitchen, complete with lower storage drawers and a subtle storage cabinet to best integrate the bench into the architecture and balance the existing bump=out on the opposite wall. It created the ideal spot for hooks for kids backpacks, storage bins, and lower shoe racks to help keep this key entrance feeling clutter free.

  • The lower garden level also received a built-in desk and floor to ceiling open shelves opposite the bench plus fresh paint and furnishings throughout.

  • The second level received a fully integrated media wall with combination open/closed storage, a lift top desk cabinet with pullout tray for an easy work from home solution, and new furnishings and decor throughout.

  • Finally we added a few touches to their primary bedroom just to make it a bit cozier for them, including a window seating nook with pendant light and accent pillows and lamps for their bed area to help tie it all together in the space.
